Is Office Space Still in Vogue?

by | Jun 10, 2021

Throughout the pandemic, many businesses instituted work at home policies. Did this mean the end of the office? Not likely. Are work habits changing? Yes.

A lot of counter-intuitive events happened over the past year. To some extent, we learned how to teach children from home. Bicycle sales went through the roof. People moved from cities to suburban locations and looked for more space.

After a year plus of the shrinking office and the pivot to a work-from-home model, some of the costs of working from home have increased the appreciation for the more traditional office, namely:

• Less cooperation and collaboration between staff
• Mixing of family and work tasks
• Lack of amenities available in an office setting
• Advanced technology within an office environment

What does this mean for those considering their future business settings? First, greater supply means better deals for tenants with Landlords looking to fill vacant space. Second, incentives may be available now and may not be available later. New businesses or those working out of their homes may also have an advantage at this time.
